A Second Year Geared in the Rear

Two years...

It's really that time again already. A time to make Starcraft SCV puns of the title and wax lyrical about the history and future of everything that is my world of writing. First and foremost though, it's a time for me to celebrate the way I do, sat at my desk in the low-lit wonder of my evil abode complete with festively decorated floating brain casement.
That's how we roll.
Aw yeah. It's apparently also a time to accidentally scrape my arm with a nail, hm. Well don't say I never bleed for you.

So on a more serious note, I've been thinking about this post all day and, honestly, since January where I decided against doing a new years post. It's that time when everyone reminisces on the year gone by, so I say with the full intent of making it sound rather hipster so I can throw in more fun doodles.
For me, at least from a standpoint of "I should talk about everything that's happened and how awesome people are", the 'new year' really starts on March 1st, but I wouldn't expect you to have heard of the Leona New Year, it's a very obsc-okay, I'll stop.

But yes, this is the day when I took that first full step into publishing. Now here's the part where I argue with the multitude of characters and hats inside my head, since to be fair I did start having a look at writing daily for a purpose in January, and the whole concept was brought to light in December when I was really in a low spot in life.

From there, the pieces all fell into place like the sort of thing people look back on and call fate and destiny because it's more romantic that way and all in all was just a sequence of events that wouldn't have felt the same any other way. Now, would they have happened at all? Most likely yes, but the combination of causes and effects is one reason to not hold so strongly to regrets and the past -- for better or worse, everything that we are shapes everything that we become.

For me, that meant picking up a new way of life that had been a part of my life since childhood... wait, writing, the erotic disposition was something very adolescent and beyond. There's no dark past here, only dark humour. I'm still not very good at talking like this, huh.

So perhaps I could write something in the New Years, but March 1st was the day it really became a real, official name in Author highlights thing, and when I first appeared on the scene. I still have my 2013 calendar laying around with the first few books and sales marked on it. I still remember back then when a new sale would prompt loading the celebratory M. Bison clip.

Two years later and the more things change, the more they stay the same. Most importantly; I'm still here, and still ecstatic over the show of support and success that's come with it. I make a point of this in the Author Note of every book but really none of it would be possible without such a wealth of awesome readers out there who take an interest in what I do. I know not everyone finds success or happiness in their writing, but I really do in thanks to the people it reaches. There's not a day I'm not thankful for every one of you changing the life I have to what it is now. It's for sharing in that love and passion that I'm still here.

Thank you.

So on the coat-tails of being heartwarming, I should talk some about what's happened during this past year and what's happening going forward. It's been an interesting year full of ups and downs, of constant experiments and iterations. One reason for the tangent on time is exactly because of those experiments and diversions, and whether any were great ideas or wholly efficient.

At the end of the day, has it been good? Has it been for the best? Could it have been better? Answers to reflections are very transient things that can't be held down for weight on their own. What's done is done and all you can do in life is take the hits and keep moving forward. That's how I'm still here, and that's how I'm going to keep moving forward. It may not be perfect, it may not keep everyone running alongside, but it's how I've walked this path and where I go with it is on my own shoulders.
The very first cover.

So the important thing to take from any reflective answer is painting a picture of just how I'm going to be moving forward with the lessons learned. To start with, I'll admit I still have a lot of ends to tie up. So before really starting anything new, I'm going to be tying those up. This includes Huntsman, Lusty Maid, Shoes of Glass, Hide, and to some extents my big flagship in Daemonique. When I start something, it will be seen through to the end.

Daemonique is where it all really started and serves as a sort of core for my fantasy world that's constantly expanding and changing. I have flash cards and books going on two years old full of notes and lofty musings about how big it could be, and I've never lost any of that scope and scale for intensity.

The fine details change a lot -- even my recent Huntsman volume was near wholly different from the original concepts I had for that installment -- but the end goals, the backing lore, language and visions remain. Being able to create those is really what makes this special.

Going forward from here is going to be stronger, bigger and better. I'm past the crushing weights of doubts and fears, the dragging and gnawing that I touched on in the previous year's post. I still may not be very good with social media like twitter, but that's a beast of its own nature that clashes ideas of what I imagine people expect to see and what I would post being entirely different and potentially alienating things. I still don't know if I should really care to be drawing those lines in the sand at all.

Everything works itself out at its own pace, though, and the moral of all this is that two years in is still really just the start of this journey for me. Where I take it from here is something for us all to really sit back and see, but if it's anything like what I have in mind, it's going to be great.

Best of all, two years from now, I'll still be here, building, expanding, binding and perfecting it all. Here's to you, who makes it possible, and here's to moving forward with everything learned. Thank you for making a great first two years, and ensuring there can be many more to come.

A Year in the Rear with the Gear - One Year of Publishing Erotic Fiction

First image in my gallery.
A year ago to the day, Leona D. Reish appeared with Daemonique I: The Darkest Desire. Back then it was ‘vol.1’, a mess of formatting and with a different cover piece. Not to imply I know what I'm doing now, but my blog posts back then sure a mess, too.

A day later, Smashwords’ read an ebook week kicked off, so I pushed to release a second book that got in on the 7th. Seeing that come around again now brings back a lot of memories. I was really very easily disheartened back then when nothing really happened through that first week with its sale event going.

In some senses, I’m just as easily disheartened now, and certainly still learning. I'm aiming to tie up current projects before I really start on anything new, since now I've a better understanding of things, I don't have to be so scattered about it. So we'll see how things go. As much as they change, I think they're going to stay the same.

Sat in a different corner of the room, at a different desk, though, things have really come a long way. It's really been a year, huh...

For sake of index-browsing scroll fingers, the rest of this post is pretty long and getting put behind a pagebreak. First year anniversary though, should probably celebrate or something.

Christmas at a military base with a disembodied brain.
My kind of fun.

A Carnival of Phantasms (Latex, Monsters and Tentacles, oh my!)

You are cordially invited to an exclusive party shrouded in mystery and decadence. It's a party where fantasy and reality blur into a night of pleasure and terror alike where guests mingle and swap partners among the most racy of fetish costumes and monstrous beings roam the halls.

[Kobo][Lulu][iTunes(SoonTM)][Paperback]

So, I've been quiet for a while. There's been some stuff posted on twitter, but no noise in terms of releases. That's because I've been hard at work with a feature length (I'm taking that to mean really nice in length but not 50k+ novel format length) story that began as some Halloween special. While it's still themed around Halloween, it's special for bigger, better reasons.

This commemorates my 20th publication, pulling in at 110 pages with a five star reception to its fetishes and story.

Anyway, so what is in this juicy feature? Not first, but foremost, since it's a little rare; sexual tickling torture. There's a whole chapter dedicated to it, and some teasing use of it outside that. I like to try different things, and that was really fun, while also jarringly frightening when you look back on what just happened in the scene as a whole. I'll leave discovering the details to the reader.

There's BDSM, latex and pet play, a whole chapter of which is shared as a Halloween treat recently, which includes some sensual lesbian kissing and not one but two femdoms. Give that a look for another idea of what I'm doing here. It's a huge, kinky party with all sorts of fetish-loving people sharing a night together. Some of them that make cameos aren't even precisely human, some you may be familiar with, and that's what makes this party so fun.

There is also - as you may have gleaned from the title - monsters and tentacles. Some of the monsters are so big, or so creepy (Not everyone appreciates spiders, I understand that), that they don't even fit in this book. As such, some only manage a lead-in cameo or a softer teasing scene, while others, primarily the juicy tentacles, get a full on virgin defiling messy cum overload.

It was a lot of fun to write, and around those sexual scenes, there's a good amount of character interaction and simple fear and tension or plain weird, otherworldly comedy moments that I threw in just because it was a fun thing to do with the freedom.

I hope people get to enjoy it for what it is, I've put a lot of heart and soul into it. No excerpt this time, as the next post down is a whole chapter's worth of excerpt, and it's currently $0.99, what more d'ya want?! I can't actually make it free on Amazon without being clumsy or restrictive, this'll have to be the click of faith!

Daemonique: Darkfall

The full story of Sylenna Lightstride's journey into a sinister underworld of demonic corruption, intrigue and depravity that will ultimately change the elven heroine, and perhaps the world around her, forever.

Reminder: Deity of the Desert I and II (Monster Girl Breeding Erotica) on sale at Amazon for limited time. All books on sale at Smashwords until August!

Now that I've had some time to rest, I can look back on this release more fondly. It's been a troublesome release where nothing except Amazon has just gone according to plan. There's probably some irony in that, but nevertheless. This project is a culmination of work over months, so far back as the very first publication, Daemonique I: The Darkest Desire. I've changed a lot of things and come a long way since then, I think. Even looking back at the oldest of release posts compared to the now is a bit amusing. Darkfall brings with it all the lessons and improvements I've gained over those months and creates new ones for me to go forward with.

So, what's changed?

First of all, the first four volumes of Daemonique have had extensive editing and proofing passes after at least a month of publication. Only minor tweaks, fixes and formatting issues have been needed, but for anyone who's bought a serialised volume of Daemonique; the most up-to-date edition is perfected.

For anyone who has not gotten into Daemonique and the darkly erotic story of Sylenna Lightstride as of yet, now is the best time, as all options are available. Tempted and want to sample the starter of the series? It all started here. Or enjoy the sound of a specific section's scenes rather than the whole overarching story? Not a problem, I write each serial volume of every series to make enough sense on its own merit, leading in on unique sexual encounters as a demonic gangbang of a massed crowd rubbing and fucking every inch of elven skin, or a spitroast best explained by the adjacent picture that inspired the idea.

All four volumes have their own kinks and merits, so they're all easily accessible on their own, but perhaps none of that matters. You like erotic demons, pretty little elves and the dark, twisted corruption of that purity that comes with them meeting, and want to see her get dragged the whole nine yards. You want the whole story, uninterrupted with chaptered headings and even a glossary of terms used throughout. Darkfall is now available to do just that, saving about 25% on the price of getting the whole story through serial volumes alone.

Being such a large release, it wouldn't really work to take out one of the standard small excerpts as an indication of content or style, but I will leave this feature with the prologue preview to Daemonique V: The Succubus Within and reminder that the extra short story added in Darkfall, now Chapter 23 - A Red-Handed History, can be found here: The Darkest Memories. Over time, I'll be releasing some chapters and other material to personal social networks. Keep an eye on the blog and join me to watch out for those.

Prologue preview follows the pagebreak:

Ellen Dominick's Interview with a Vampire

I recently had the opportunity to write something a little different. Rather than directly erotica, I was asked if I'd be interested in an interview with Ellen Dominick - talking about myself. Dangerous thing with how I can carry on given the chance, but so it was, and I took up the opportunity quite happily. It's a touch different to what you may usually expect from an author interview, but I think that's what made it quite nice and interesting.

Being more of a look at the life behind the writing and what gets it out there than the content itself, it gives you a different sort of look into an author's workings. Everyone has their own processes and tools. Regardless of what genre they get out, there is a lot of work and tech behind making the magic of storytelling work. This interview brings a little light to the method behind my madness.

It's also been one of the things keeping me busy of late that doesn't quantify as a direct publication, so the next to release are coming a bit slower. You can always find what I've been doing with the Author Feature search tag and browsing the Library here, and rest assured I'm still at it. There's a number of things I'm itching to work on and a number I can't begin to wrap around the vastness of options open to me. It's a fun time.

One of the other things seeking to distract, of course, has been E3, rather special once-a-year thing for people with gaming at heart. Thief going back to its roots after fifteen years and a new Batman keeping the core of what made the previous games work so well? Very happy.

Today Leona D. Reish joins us for the very first installment of the How I Write Erotica interview series. It's a little different than your normal interview. If you're a writing geek like me, I think you'll enjoy this in depth look into how one erotica author gets the job done.

- Ellen Dominick
Read the full interview here.

Give it a look, share it around and leave some comments for us here and there. It's great to be able to share some insight less tied to a specific publications and more to the general process and touch on the timeless love for storytelling.

Profiling Profiles

Not nearly as important as my short story posted below this, but just a quick pointer that I updated pages a bit to add a better profile, including ways to contact me, where to find me on Twitter and where to find my publications. The default 'Full Profile' on the right was effectively just my Google+ bit, which didn't really cover it, so that's been replaced, ironically, with the profile/circles button.

I'm also in the process of prodding around with setting and finding things I can do like adding the Twitter feed, so don't be alarmed if something's drastically changed mid-browsing or looks completely different. Some changes have to be saved to be properly tweaked, and so far I think I like this layout more.

Okay but for realsies what's next?

Yeah, I got a bit distracted and ran off on a tangent with the last post, but really I think it was something more worth saying than a vague idea of my plans anyway. To some extent I just needed to write it for myself, too.

Well, I've been busy with a number of things, both erotic and not, but it is a constantly running thought. Next up is a story challenge piece I'm still debating how to shift into published erotica. Really I could post it up free for sake of exposure to what I can do since it's written and posted free for sake of challenge and fun, so it can't hurt. Keep an eye out for that section on the blog, if I figure out how to better manipulate pages, I'll certainly have something fancy worked up.

The story challenge itself is essentially 6k words maximum with theme of 'corruption,' with optional 'madness' and ' inclusion of vial(s)'. Pre-edit it's come in at 6018 words but the previous months story challenge needed about 500 words cut off it, and editing tends to add or subtract about that much. I know where there are sections I can take a decent amount off anyway, so that's fine.

It's an interesting piece though, in some way spread a little thin but I like to think I work with using that thin coat well, leaving more things in the early story open to imagination and filling in. As well as that, just that what's been done to the character allows for quick and hard anal with some implied voyeurism I leave the reader to fill in the part of right there without draw of foreplay and suchlike that I might usually employ. Then it just goes all sorts of different places of crazy till effectively fading to black in the middle of a relatively pretty hardcore scene I won't spoil. It cuts there just because I can, but also because once I have the premise of it down, any additional narration of it would just be repetition best left to the imagination. It wasn't going to be ending any time soon, either.

You'll see what I mean when I get it edited and sorted out. That leads into my next point nicely too, as figuring out and managing things like this blog's layout and what I can actually do with additional pages is an interesting thing that can just devour an entire evening, so I try not to mess with that right now, but things could certainly get changed up.

Beyond that, I have several volumes worth of plans for Daemonique, at least a second for A Boy's Secret, and a number of other things in mind.

Daemonique vol.1 The Darkest Desire (Demon MMF Menage & Succubus Erotica)

Published March 1st, 2013

Now that there's been time to let the dust settle, to let sites get their copies updated and for me to get profiling and my next publication done, I realised I hadn't really done a proper release post for Daemonique. So while I wait on that next project to finalize in publication, I'll get around to this.

Add to your Shelfari and GoodReads

Daemonique takes place in a rather traditional fantasy setting. While our story may start slow, it serves to build on the world it all takes place in. Many years ago, a demonic host was summoned from inside the prison island, effectively destroying it. Mankind fought back against the darkness for years and eventually succeeded in sealing the demonic host underground in what remained of the sprawling prison complex. Now, being an island dedicated to incarcerating individuals, it was a far-spanning and impressive thing.

Now, I said the demonic host was sealed underground, and that's exactly where I mean. The prison complex managed to spider down under the ground as much as over. Things above ground are prey to wear of the elements and destruction, and indeed much of the island above ground is a ruin of former glory. Beneath the island's surface runs that network of many levels though, as deep and sinister as any mine or forgotten cave.

Down there, the demonic host has settled itself on inheriting the depths. The seals on their prison mean their dark souls will not simply return to the eternal void upon death. They are much more cautious about attacking, now that true death holds threat over them. Over the course of the story's beginnings, however, it comes to light that with the seals failing and demons roaming the surface again, that maybe they are not held all as firmly as mankind would like to believe.

Sylenna Lightstride is our stories Elven heroine situated on the cursed island as one of its Wardens. Not everyone in the outside world thinks too kindly of elves, discrimination is as rife as in any age, but on the island, not a person cares who or what you are. You serve and protect against a greater darkness on Sarandin Isle, and that's a bond thicker than blood.

Now Sylenna Lightstride is a very proud and capable Warden, and on finding a scouting party of demons, sets about dispatching it alone and ends up paying for her pride at the hands of an immensely sexual demon, commonly known as a succubus that traps Sylenna within the lustful dreams of her own mind. This is the first installment in what is set out to be a long running and darkly erotic series.

The Secrets Men Hide

He looks pensive because he's trying to help me figure out a good title, honest. Nothing to do with his latest shocking twist of falling for a pretty, pretty boy of a man.

Okay, so maybe it is. And maybe I enjoyed writing it enough to go on a rampage of typing nonsense in the middle of the night. The important conclusions from that post are to a point of that the emotion in the reasoning, dialogue and their interaction came across stronger than I'd initially thought it would, just because I had such a momentum for it.

Maybe it's what people call their muse, and maybe I just haven't subverted mine into a tulpa yet for it to be obvious. Could be why it's still a bit dazzling when you're essentially carried away on a whim and barely think of what you're writing, you just give it form.

A Boy's Secret is a Gay Erotica story of sudden romance and all the risks it holds in high-class London due to be published later tonight.

Under cover of darkness, evil stirs.

This took much longer than I thought, but I can appreciate every step of it and really see the difference in the formatting from what it began as. Publishing is a very serious stage, and now it's done.

Daemonique - Book One: The Darkest Desire on Smashwords

Amazon needs a day to review it, but then the Smashwords copy isn't authorized for Premium status yet, either. Review pending. I don't know. Come what may, I'm really happy and hopeful with this. Now to figure out how to add the listing to my own site and get on with the rest of it.

The Wheel moves as The Wheel wills,  but it is moving.

It starts with a cover.

Spent most of the day working on this. An when I say working on I mean trying to find a font that doesn't make the lower-case Q look like a G. Then dealing with the finer details of it, but I think I'm happy with how it's turned out. Now just some final proofing passes on the writing and I'll have my first publish.

The sound of progress is a mechanical keyboard.

Well, I just finished the finalizing edit pass for my first story to be published later today. It feels good, it's been a lot more fun than I thought it would to go through it, chopping up and reworking things. It also really encouraged me to go all out, which ended up in what was originally a short imagery prompt becoming about 3.8k worth of intense sexual pleasure. An that isn't even including the Succubus' involvement with the heroine after the scene. All that remains now is to thoroughly proofread it, format it into the relevant file types and set up accounts on any relevant site I haven't yet established. Now it's going to be purely graphical and administrative work for a little while. Just as well I have a history with that.

It's a step forward, and it's a start. What comes from here will be what it is, but this place is where the footsteps through time will lead back to.
